"Uthai Thani" : The land of a world heritage Huai Kha Khaeng
Uthai Thani is one of the most naturally endowed provinces in the North, where the major tourist attraction is the Huai Kha Khaeng, a world heritage site. Besides, it has many historical sites dating back to the Dhavaravadi era.
Cherish the culture
Wat Sangkat Ratanakhiri is located at the end of Tha Chang Road in Muang Uthai Thani. It has the province 's mostsacred Buddha image Phra Phuttha Mongkol. From this temple, stairs lead to the top of Sakaekrang Mount where visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the province. The temple also has a miniature Buddha footprint and a large bell which nearly all visitors ring to mark their visit to the province.
Wat Chantharam (Wat Tha Sung) was built in the Ayutthaya era, and its walls were painted by local people. It is the main meditation centre for Buddhists. It is 5 km off Muang Uthai Thani. Take Highway 3265 and head towards the Manorom district's raft ferry pier for 12 km.
Khao Pathawi is a small but rather steep mountain made of pilling rocks, where around 30 caves exist, including a bat cave. Visitors can climb to the top . A big herd of monkeys lives in front of the mountain. Pre-historic human bones and rock tools can also be found here. Take Highway 3013 to Thapthan district and go further for another 18 km.
Khao Pla Ra is a steep mountain with fertile forests. It takes a 2- hour walk to reach the top which is a wonderful vantage point for viewing. On the western cliff, pre-historic colourful paintings are found and these make the mountain a historical place. Take Nong Chan-Lomsak Road for 22 km and turn left to a gravel road for 7.5 km.
